One of the outcomes of the take-over of Chain Reaction Cycles by Wiggle is that they've moved their financial operations from Ireland to Britain. I just noticed my last purchase from CRC in AUD using…Continue

Bicycle Garage in Lilyfield closed

I rode past the Bicycle Garage in Lilyfield last night and all the bikes are gone, the fittings removed and the external signage taken down. There were no signs on the door or windows saying they'd…Continue

"At some point in time orders from Rapha.cc incurred a forex exchange fee. The prices appear in AUD when you shop but the transaction is really in GBP - some cards charge to convert, but it is not anything like 3%. JM"

"FYI : Incidentally, I found 2 CRC transactions in AUD of Feb 2016 which attracted the ~3% charges Some sites that end with .com.au can attract forex charge which really, really irritates me I pretty much try to do all online purchases with a…"

"Not a recent change, it depends on your credit card provider. I've been stung even on AUD transactions. Get a 28degrees card for all overseas purchases."

Bank fees for Chain Reaction purchases

One of the outcomes of the take-over of Chain Reaction Cycles by Wiggle is that they've moved their financial operations from Ireland to Britain. I just noticed my last purchase from CRC in AUD using a VISA card attracted a 3.4% international transaction fee. Prior to the take-over, I'd previously been buying from them for years without a fee.Anyone purchased recently from CRC and had the same issue?See More

Sunny replied to John Knight's discussion Wax based chain lube - Anybody else converted?
"I've tried a range of both dry and wet chain lubes for both club and commuting bikes, but not waxes. Generally speaking, I can't be bothered now and just use a wet lube (Finish Line Wet) for both. For normal weather, once a week I wipe the…"

"I tried TF2 teflon spray for a few months too. Yeah, doesn't seem to stay on and needs constant replacing. Only benefit is that the chain is really easy to keep clean and you can just keep spraying more without any buildup."

"Often they let repairs slide, saying we might need to dig it up again for some reason, or the contractor can't fit it in until next year, or some such. Insupportable, as the French say."

"I think Sunny's point is they haven't actually repaired the bike lane after digging it up. Delhi Rd is a great place for drivers who attack cyclists for riding on-road. I was knocked off there deliberately by a P-Plater, just for being in…"

Delhi Rd cycle lane ruined

If you ride up Delhi Rd in North Ryde towards the train station, you'll be disappointed to find that the property developers building the units at the top of the hill have dug up about 300m of the bike lane to run something like power or other cabling up to the site.To fill the trench they made, they've just chucked in some hot mix here and there, so it's now a pot holed, bumpy piece of crap that's full of debris. You're more or less forced to ride in the car lane to avoid it all.All they had…See More

"Maybe car parking for the new dev will be required to be off street, thus freeing up space for a bi-di bike path kerbside, as planned in the Lilyfield Rd upgrade, which is still to finalised. Supposed to go to Council soon. They are apparently still…"
