- Born and raised in Que Que, Rhodesia, lived through the 'liberation struggle' and 'transformation' of Rhodesia into Zimbabwe. Went to Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. Worked in advertising up in Johannesburg and survived commuting on my bike in Jo'berg traffic. Founding member of Johannesburg MTB Club where I met the love of my life. Raced XC at national & provincial level. Established and edited RIDE magazine, and co-authored 4 books on MTB in RSA. After baby nr. 3, we decided that the 'transformation' of South Africa shared too many ominous similarities with that of Zimbabwe and there wasn't going to be a pot of gold for us or our kids at the end of the Rainbow Nation...thus we embarked upon the very difficult (and expensive) decision in 2004 to wipe out our entire identity and network in one flight far, far south to Sydney. Becoming more thickly settled as each year passes, although I do sometimes miss the wild freedom of chaos, and the lack of stifling regulation that is life in Africa...

Just got back from my mum & daughter weekend in Wollongong, first time I have ever visited it. In spite of the inclement weather, we managed to pack in a slow, two hour ride north, towards Ocean Park. Now that it's school hols, had a great little ride with the kids and a friend from Galston from Newington Armoury out to Haslams Lookout on Hills Road. Apart from the M7 & Windsor Road, this is the only flat riding area I know of in Sydney!…
