I absolutely agree that this law is counterproductive. I work as a ranger and my sites get thousands of people through it every day. 95% of the first aid I do is for people that trick over whilst walking, fall over whilst standing up or falling down…

Has it improved safety? It doesn't look like it. The 'safety in numbers' and 'risk compensation' factors seem to overcome the minor safety benefits, resulting in net safety loss.

- Grew up in Europe, in a world where cycling was normal and safe.
I use cycling mainly as a mode of transport, using a sturdy bike.
Since arriving in Sydney, I have mostly cycled on week-ends on cycle paths.
In early 2008, I started commuting to work by bicycle. This has made me much healthier. I really enjoy my cycling commute. I'm turning into a bit of a cyclist enthusiast from this experience.
