"Willing to join the effort, but week-end is out. Easiest for me would be to meet weekdays lunchtime or perhaps in evening, in the CBD."

"Thank you Roisin for bringing up the issue of coordinated action. You are correct, we could probably achieve more as a coordinated group.  I agree with Tom that having a group of people meeting on a regular basis would be a good place to start.…"

"Sorry I meant "helmetless riders more likely to ride naked" for the title. I find it weird that they have a "naked ride" in Melbourne, yet they still wear their helmets. Religious superstition reinforced by the police state."

About Me:
Grew up in Europe, in a world where cycling was normal and safe.
I cycle mainly as a mode of transport, using a sturdy bike.

Arrived in Australia in 1991. Cycled to work until 1992, when I was told in a rude & aggressive manner by the police to “Get off the road”. My crime? I wasn't wearing a polystyrene hat.

I switched to motorcycles and cycled mostly on off-road cycle paths, mostly on week-ends.

In 2007, my deteriorating health prompted to start cycling more regularly. Since cycling to work again, my health has improved a bit, although it is still a challenge.

This has prompted me to look at cycling as a mode of transport, especially for health benefits. Researching this topic made me realise the damage done by our helmet law, driven by irrational fears and superstition. I'm not the only one affected. I hope I can contribute to get rid of this idiocy.

Hi SC!  Yes, I left Helmetless Riders in a bit of a huff a couple of months ago after a bit of unpleasant bollocking from couple of (then) members that jumped to the wrong conclusion about a post I made and then proceeded to dump on me for it without bothering to clarify what I was on about.  Looking back on it I can see what they were getting at, but at the time I was just over it all and didn't feel like wasting the time trying to sort it out.  Besides, some people's egos just get in the way of pleasant and engaging exchanges of ideas.  On a brighter note, I notice that both the main offenders have since left the site, so I might end up joining the group again.

Hi SC,

I'd rather keep it together for a few days, just because they're really part of the package but if things are quiet then I'd be happy to separate them..

That ok?

Cheers,

Dan
