Cycling in Sydney Australia
Signs of the climbs. Ascending, and descending, Mt Hotham

One of the great things about the annual Audax Alpine Classic, run in the Victorian Alps around Australia Day, is the opportunity it gives to ride all the other roads in the area surrounding Bright. These fabulous,…

Santos northwestern tour
Hey does anybody know out there if the Northwestern tour is open to everybody. There talking it up as if its gonna be run as a teams event. I,m worried if I cant average 45km/hr over 130 k,s dont bother entering. It,ll be a shame if it isnt open to average Joe as average Joe has made the Sundowner and the Gunnedah to Tamworth what it is today.

St Bogan Day eve ride
So I was housebound for a few to many days and the only time I went outside I got wet so it was Wednesday night and just past 9 pm and a looked outside to see a wet road and stars. ...
I bid my wife goodnight and put on a double layer of lycra and my work shorts (my normal cycling pants) and went for a ride. I went towards Bondi Beach form just south along the ridge and then turned though the hills of Paddington to find hardly any cars on the road at all. weaving the hills and…

Magpies
For those who become concerned with bombing Magpies. Out of season now, of course, but try this next bombing season.
Maggies, being birds, have light, hollow bones. They make their living flying and they will not risk these bones lightly. Do you ever see Magpies having mid air collisions or banging into things?
The next time a Maggie bombs you, start to count. When you reach 5, shoot one arm up in the air. A Magpie must gain elevation before his/her next strafing run. This…

I don’t know if it was down to it being Friday and everyone being a little chilled out for the weekend. I don’t know if it was because decent human beings in their cars behaving like caring members of a society felt they needed to make up for some of the more boorish (and well publicised, oft discussed) driver behaviour that has come to light.
I don’t know if it was because I radiate sweetness and light as I glide along on my trusty Giant (I kind of doubt it was this, it’s hard to…

I think it would be a great idea to put the 1000+ cyclists that travel every day from North Sydney back in their cars and see what a traffic jam is real like! Never mind critical Mass lets do critical car! Most of us that ride have cars to, so let vote with our cars! they will soon want us back on our bikes :)

Nothing will stop me from cycling.Part 3.
*Sept-Dec`11*
Dungog Pedalfest came up and it was my 3rd trips. The last 2 trips had ended in knee pains that I can`t completed the Dam Good ride 46km due to undulating hills and made it swollen. Those 2 Saturday rides in a day had me put ice on my knee from riding in my old MTB.But with my new "Bad Black" and WSCN team had made me completed all 3 rides in 2 days without the need for ice and it was…

2012 and beyond
It hasn't been the best start for 2012 for me.
Commuting to work has been curtailed with a painful episode of gout early last week - right when the weather was starting to look beautiful too!
I'm not fully recovered but the swelling has subsided to the point where I managed to squeeze my foot into my cycling shoes and get in a ride in today, looking and feeling great on the bike, until I get off and limp around.
So staying healthy is right up there for my wishes and…

Just another road trip with Geoff and John (Sequel to: Just another night on the road?)
Well, it has been a while but a few readers asked for more, especially since I left them hanging by suggesting there were horrors as yet unrevealed... so, as the Alpine ride is approaching, it may be a good time to continue the saga of my nightmarish cycling trips with Geoff and John (not their real names -- to protect me) in the 1990s. Though this is less a cycling trip than a…

Egocentric statistical nerdom #2: My Cycling in 2011 "The Year Of The Bent Hangers"
In 2011 I cycled a total of 12168km which is 3561km more than last year. 8821km of this was commuting, which saved me around $1747.87 from not having to purchase fuel - which is less that I would have saved had a drunk commodore (what else) driver not written off my old car allowing us to buy a fuel efficient Honda Jazz, in which we have done roughly half the kms I have ridden in the same time. My commuting also allowed me to attain a new level of smugness by not emitting…
