My Single Speed finished

For a while I had wanted to try my hand at building up a single speed bike from essentially second hand parts. I finished it this morning; 28th Feb '09.

Here's a list of parts and costs (I'm trying to keep it from the wife).

New Parts

Seat $20 (ebay)

Chain $10 (Anaconda sale)

Handle grips $5 (ebay)

Brake levers and cables $30 (Burwood Cycleworld)

Went for a ride on Sunday- nothing to complain about

Waterfall to the Gong- what a great ride! From Waterfall its a fast downhill along McKell Av, then a cruise up Lady Wakefield, smelling the rainforest, and a good climb out of the park to emerge at the escarpment overlooking the Illawarra coast. Have a coffee at the Pie Shop at Otford- great outdoor seating. Often some vintage cars parked there or a few paragliders zooming overhead. Time before last, a bloke was flying a remote controlled plane, doing loop the loops.

What do you do?

On the same week that ACA ran a story attacking cyclists (how unusual for tabloid TV!), I saw one of the worst displays of inconsiderate behaviour on the Cook River Cycle Path. It happened on Monday. I had had a day at work I would rather forget having attended the funeral of a workmate who committed suicide (the same one I posted on earlier). I went for a ride to Concord West via Olympic Park.

As I was riding up the path close to the tennis courts, a couple of Old Dears riding MTBs were… Continue

I personally did not feel like working on the front counter that day and would have preferred to have done something else. Nearly everyone felt the same. Unfortunatly Peta the manager of the… Continue

Farewell to the M2 and Epping road cyclists

I've decided to no longer ride into the office on the M2 and Epping Road cycle way. This morning I decided to take the M4 then following the signs (and other cyclists) into the city then to North Sydney. It was 5 minutes quicker and it was a good change of scenery. One day when I am bored with that view I may change back to the M2 but for now let me say...

Thank you to all the cyclists who offered me help when I was punctured.

Thank you to the cyclists who waved from the other… Continue
