Road to Byng

The country between Bathurst and Orange north of the Mitchell Highway is very pretty but rugged. On the map there is a place named Byng about half way, which looked like it was just a "locality", no facilities. Our touring group (LBUG Tourers) planned to ride from Newbridge to Orange, via Blayney and Byng and the Icely Road on the Saturday of the Anzac weekend and return via Milthorpe on Monday, with a day ride from Orange on… Continue

The Long walk (Bicentennial Trail)

The proposed starting date is the beginning of November 2009. I will starting a walking/bicycling trek along the Bicentennial Trail (which goes from Melbourne to Cooktown). I am building and trialing a trolley between now and when I start the trek. The trip will take a year to complete.

I require the rear wheel fork of a 24 inch trail bike in the Sydney area.

I am building the trolley from two bike frames.

If anyone has any good quality damaged, old, or you just… Continue

Iggy Kim

Iggy Kim is a fine young Australian musician who only weeks ago was on track for an outstanding career as a concert violinist. But as a result of a hit and run accident whilst riding his bicycle, he is now suffering deeply, with his career at risk.

Iggy is studying Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Associate Professor Goetz Richter. Iggy has completed his second year of study and is due to take up an international scholarship later this year… Continue

Caught without my lights

I grabbed the batteries for my Dinotte light this morning and shoved the light and the batteries in my bag on my way out the door for work.

It wasn't until I was leaving work and retrieved all the bits from my bag that I realised I'd left the battery holder on the desk at home and I had to face the… Continue

What is it about riding and bloody phones?

A few weeks ago I went along Adderly Street Silverwater, when I found a fairly newish mobile phone. Fortunately it was not locked and I was able to ring "Home" and arranged for the son and daugher inlaw of the guy who lost it to come and pick it up. They were quite nice about it as their father had lost it while riding.

Today I was riding through Sydney Olympic Park and enjoying the ride when I came accross a cordless phone (Yes it was the one you use at home). There was still battery… Continue

Two days

Two days as a bus commuter is how long it took to break me.

I just started a new consulting project in the CBD, I'll be there for a few months so I figured I'd start riding in a few weeks after I'd settled in.

Day one, caught the bus in. It was a bit of a novelty, and I left really early for a pre-start meeting so it wasn't too crowded.

It just so happened in the first hour I got a tour of the office.

"And this is the shower, so if you wanted to go to the… Continue

Update from Team Velosure Bicycle Insurance / Hollard from the ABSA Cape Cape Epic

Day 3 (Stage 2).

100 km / 1,527 m ascent

5:23. 86th position for the day / 104 overall

After a tortuous first stage that took us over 7 hours and left us well outside the top 100, we rebounded really well today. The course was more forgiving than yesterday and we were wiser about our nutrition on the bike. We carried extra water and took care to eat a lot.

On Stage 1 we were just surviving. Today we raced. We started cautiously but rode into our legs and… Continue

Update from Team Velosure Bicycle Insurance / Hollard from the ABSA Cape Cape Epic

Cape Epic Update 1.

The Prologue

Yesterday (Saturday) was the time trial prologue on Table Mountain, which almost didn't happen because of fires that swept through the course. The scene at registration was pretty interesting with helicopters dropping water bombs not far away.

The course was short, but very hilly and in places technical. Teams went off every 30 seconds in alphabetical order of team name. Riding as Velosure/Hollard earned us a sleep-in and one of… Continue

Update from Team Velosure Bicycle Insurance / Hollard at the 2009 Sani 2 C

Hello everyone,

Here's a recap of the awesome three-day Sani2c mountain bike stage race Rich and I did from last Thursday to Saturday. This was our second time at time race. Last year we finished in around 90th position. With a bit more mountain biking experience and a lot more training in preparation for the Cape Epic, our goal was to make a big jump in the standings.

On Wednesday Rich and I took a shuttle bus to the start town for registration. We met Rich's cousin, Adi,… Continue

Punctures, punctures, punctures.

The rear tyre on my commuter bike is wearing out a lot quicker that the front. During February and March I had three punctures in six weeks, all in the rear.

Following a recent ride to Kurnell the rear tyre slowly deflated. Another puncture! While repairing the puncture I usd the opportunity and swapped the tyres. Worn rear tyre on the front, near new looking front tyre moved to the back.

Great. That should mean less punctures.

Last weekend I did a ride near… Continue
