I am not a criminal!

First of all, I should apologise for this blog post, and warn you in advance that it's about helmets. I do adhere to DM's rule about no helmet stuff, but, well, on this occasion I'm going to be a very naught boy. Sorry.

It all started back in January when I received a ticket for riding without a helmet. Then I got…

Being tailgated by a Cyclist!!

Found this in the local rag.

I don't know who it is, but it could quite easily have been me on a number of occasions.  I often get overtaken by a driver who can't possibly sit behind a cyclist, only to almost run in the back of them as they jam on the brakes for the next roundabout.

But you have to admire someone who would deliberately break the law by taking…

A great afternoon with the kids (21/5/11)

I had planned to go on Rob K's ride today, but when I mentioned it to my wife, it didn't go down too well.

I did get out on the bike after a bit of negotiation (give in and go with her to her parents). Jasmine rode her 12" bike on training wheels from Tanya's parents place (near intersection of Hume Hwy & Cabramatta Rd) along the footpath, which Hannah was too scared to (Seemed too narrow for her with trees invading the space). We got down to Hoy Park (near the boat ramp)…

Getting wood on the Radish

I am very excited to announce that Baby Dan has graduated. She took her first steps a few weeks ago, and has been gradually gaining confidence walking upright since. As such, she will henceforth be known as 'Toddler Dan'.

Going along with this new found locomotion is a high degree of curiosity about…

Well done on completion of the much maligned Bourke Street cycle path

Much has been said for and against the cycle paths of Sydney.

Many have provided the confidence for the average cyclist to get on the saddle.

Tell your friends and get riding in order to keep Alan Jones at bay.

Resurecting Iggy the story so far

A while ago I asked if I should restore Iggy and the vibe seemed to be that the project should go ahead. I have begun with the purchase of an A-head converter & a handlebar stem from a local bike shop. I attempted to remove the old handlebar stem and basically suceeded in removing the bolt that held it in but not the actual stem itself.

I was able to remove the handlebars and put them on the new stem but the old stem remained stuck. I tried everything from twisting and turning and…

MY BROOKS SADDLE - will my rear end learn to love it?

I just bought a Brooks saddle. I've bought bikes for less money. But the hope is that it will last a lifetime, or at least the lifetime of my backside. First my saddle and my derriere have a few getting to know you issues to sort out...

Crazy pram weilding old bald man with crazy mad scientist hair

The other day I was riding along the bike path down at Sans Souci heading north, just as it turns into the dolls point part of the track, behind the houses. There's a little path where pedestrians can join the shared path from the footpath. As I was heading towards this section, I saw an older man pushing a pram along. He saw me too, coming along at some pace - probably 20km or so. I slowed down as a cautionary and thought to ring my bell, but also thought that he being older, would realise…

He ordered ultrasound to check my liver.I was told that I have 2.5cm scar in my liver and I`ve got cirrhosis from…

Where in the world is my bike? 1/5/11

I didn't get to go on the Ride2Riverstone ride this year, but I was still out on my bike. Very proud of the fact that Hannah rode the 18km herself on her bike, and once we'd finished wanted to ride more. Credit for photo to Ken…

Puncture repair - Fail. (updated)

I thought I'd avoided the pools of broken glass along Hickson Rd this morning but as I started up onto the bridge it was apparent that the rear tyre was losing air. So I urned around and rode back to a park bench to repair the puncture.

Hadn't had a puncture on any bike for 2 years.

No problem. I always carry a puncture repair kit and a spare tube.

Removed the wheel, found the glass sticking out of the tyre, removed tyre and tube. Checked tyre…

Not much happening

I decided to ride to Kurnell and back to get some exercise in. The total is about 75km so it's a good day's out.

The first problem hit in Botany, as my left tire went flat. It took me a moment to realise what had happened as I thought the noise was because of the rough bitumen. Anyway, got the puncture kit out (had bought a new one recently). They had two kinds of patches, classic cold patches and no glue patches. I decided to go for the no glue patch. Checked the tire and…
