Recycling old cycles - another great Dutch idea!

A new project launches in Holland this week. A little company buys up serviceable old bike frames, gives them a trendy paint job and new environmentally-sound components, and sells them for good money. Is there such a scheme in Australia? A window of opportunity for someone?

Good news! (not cycling related)

I was supposed to go out for a ride yesterday, but for various reasons I didn't make it. So over dinner last night Mrs Dan said I should go out today instead.

But it didn't happen, because at 5am Mrs Dan went into labour, and Baby Dan the second was born at 10.45am.

Everyone is doing really well. Just such an amazing, emotional, wonderful experience. I now have two beautiful daughters.

I did get to ride my bike in the end though, as I cycled back to the hospital for…

Selling the muse

In the end, it was quite a snap decision. 'Why don't you just buy that one from me?' I found myself saying, as I discussed yet again the bike that a friend was going to buy. 'I'd love to - that would be perfect. I like that bike.' came the response, and it was done. The bike that got me back into cycling, that got me fit…

Brocolli over Gross Schiedegg

This 450 gm hunk of broccoli never expected to be dragged over the 1962m Gross Scheidegg on a bicycle. And I wasn't expecting to be its host either. Needless to say when I discovered it in my pannier on the other side I boiled it up and ate the bastard.

My first high Swiss pass was an accident, I didn't have a…

CADEL WINS AGAIN - in Holland this time.

Much excitement here in the Netherlands as Cadel took out yesterday's criterium in Surhuisterveen in Friesland. The Dutch were delighted to have Cadel taking part in this race in a tiny village...the equivalent of getting Tiger Woods (before his fall from grace) to play the Merimbula Open. They put him on TV and tested him on his pronunciation of Surhuisterveen. He done good!  For more...… Continue
