London Pico-tour

So I was in the UK and had hired a bike to ride an audax ride. I had a few relatives who lived within a reasonable riding distance to said audax ride and I had investigated riding routes to the homes in case I needed to make use of them. What I found was that I could ride the vast majority of the way out of London on NCN1 (National Cycle Network route 1) which was along, mostly, canal tow paths…

WITWIMB?

Ooooh, I've always wanted to do one of these, but rarely go anywhere not instantly recognisable as Sydney's Inner west.

This is not the inner west, however...

There are a couple of hints if you look…

So I was going to the UK...

...and as any self-respecting randonneur would do, I checked the Audax UK website for rides and there was one starting at 08:00 only 50 mins by train from London Liverpool St which happens to be a mere 2km ride from my brothers flat. Next, bike....? Can I hire a road bike or will I have to get my bro's 80s steel MTB road…

King Street Green Lights

For the first time ever this morning 3 x bike lane traffic lights on King Street were sequenced green.  It was so much better not having to stop and start half a dozen times in bike crowds riding up King St.  Just wondering if the traffic controllers have re-programmed it.  Anybody else see it?

Melbourne Bike Share

I had occasion to travel to Melbun on business recently. My schedule was fairly tight, but in the end I arrived at my destination half an hour or so earlier than my appointment. And, as luck would have it, there was a bike share station right outside the door.  Here was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up – I just had time for a quick ride! I have never had the…

Videoing my ride

I’d been toying with the question for a while – it’s something that is a growing trend amongst cyclists, as evidenced by the endless youtube footage if cars carving up cyclists. Should I get a camera for my bike? The main motivation for attaching a camera to one’s bike seems to be in order to capture bad driver behaviour and, if the worst comes to the worst, to use as…

Tyre failures and inflationary pressures

I have, in the past, been a vocal supporter of Conti SportContact tyres.  I’ve been running the 32mm wire bead version of this tyre on the fixie (and also a tourer, whilst I had one) for many years, with huge success. They are grippy, highly puncture resistant, they roll well and last for ever. I’ve had examples of these tyres that have lasted well over 10,000km, and…
