Miracle of miracles, Miranda has done a back pedal on her attitude to cyclists. Since about 90% condemned her, she has now retracted (somewhat) what she said. Still, the idiot I must drive at all costs brigade are taking exception.. Again, the hoary old chestnut about motorists paying for all roads raised its ugly head. When will they understand that roads are paid for maily out of general revenue ie taxes, and are therefore for everyone. Still, to see the Devine back down is some sort of… Continue
Earlier this evening we went for a ride along the old canal to see what it was like now the path is open again (on weekends only, at certain times etc....). It was good to be able to get through to Prospect without going through Pemulwuy or around the longer way. Despite the multiple signs warning of snakes near the Greystanes entry gate we didn't see any. We also chose not to dismount, as the signs directed, to go across the short section that hasn't been bitumened (is that even a… Continue

My impulsive detouring is taking me onto more of the roads nominated in the biggest hill thread, at least those north of the harbour.
This morning, while the city (but not many cyclists) slumbered – good grief, they were like ants, riding in their hundreds, it seemed, in long lines all over the northern beaches' roads – I found Alexander St, Collaroy.
I finally got my 2 year old bub onto my bike... yey!
I took her to the Monkeys and she was able to try out the types of child seat and choose for herself. It was important that it was her decision as she is pretty determined not to get bossed around by her dad.
We got the Topeak seat for the back. I put it on last night and we tried it out today - She loved it!
This is a description of what it is like to ride a bicycle in Tokyo.
Population 12.8 million
How would I describe cycling practically in Tokyo?
Legal.
Cycling in tokyo is great, it completely reaffirms that the way I have spent my career cycling illegally for the last 12years is the correct way to be cycling.
In case you didn't know already
I started as a bicycle courier in adelaide during… Continue
Without a tandem stoker for the day (Andrew had inexplicably decided that three days of listening firsthand to motorbikes zoom around and around the Phillip Island circuit was somehow more attractive than riding a bicycle around Sydney), I had to find cycling entertainment solo.
Despite the damp roads early, a circuit through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park seemed like a good idea. It had been a while since I had ridden along Wakehurst Parkway and up through Church Point and even… Continue
Well, as you may have seen elsewhere, I bought another bike. I did something that I would probably never recommend to anyone; that is I bought a bike from a supermarket, in a box, sight unseen. I was given some confidence, however, by the positive vibes given of in this thread. And for $200, well, I reckoned I could justify it simply as a toy.
Im looking to buy a second hand bike in sydney. i live in pyrmont but keep going to sydney uni, so im happy going anywhere in the cbd area to get the bike. BUT...... heres the catch. i have a very poor budget- 300 dollars.
Does anyone know if i can get a decent bicycle in that range, and if so, where??
any ideas are welcome
This is my second post about my research trip to the UK, US and Canada to investigate bicycling advocacy. To all the people who have emailed asking where my blogs are I apologise for my slow dissemination of information. The blog hasn’t been so easy to get to. The combination of cycling around a new city and taking on board so much new information is tiring business (but still hugely fun and rewarding). I’m also never quite sure when is a good… Continue
Well, as some of you may remember, a little while ago I bought a new bike. Here it is:
Other than feeding my addiction, I bought it because I wanted something more practical, something I could carry stuff around on and do longer rides. Oh, and I lusted after… Continue

I hinted at this with my status message the other day - I have some big-ish news.
We (Sammy and the kids and I) have decided to leave Sydney and move to Brisbane.....yep, shocking. I wouldn't have predicted it myself a few months ago.
I've got an opportunity to transfer with my current job to Brisbane, we need more people on our team up there.
Sam and I are in need of a bit of a change of scenery, so it… Continue
As some (or all) may be aware, BikeSydney run a small business (besides the lobbying that we do), Bike Valet Parking , this helps fund BikeSydney advocacy aspirations (of course some money goes to such things as insurance).
Anyway I just want to mention one such item we are doing. This month there is a cycling conference in Melbourne - http://www.bv.com.au/change-the-world/43721/ and we are sending three members to this.
From this there will be a sharing of knowledge, reports… Continue
