Cycling in Sydney Australia
silly question. Ive just arrived from Melbourne and experienced but only social road rider.
I live on Redfern/Surry Hills border.
I understand there are a couple of rides e.g. Centennial Park, but is there anyway along the water I can ride that is "road cycle friendly"?
I should be training. I've committed to nine days of the RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride and I would not call myself "touring fit". I'm 55, I ride a hybrid Malvern Star (... yes, really, and it's usually weighed down with library books) and I cannot pretend comfy rides of 15km around town twice a week constitute serious preparation.
I did the ride last year and loved the freedom of the road, the up close and personal connection with the landscape (all those giant skies…Continue
Below is a post I wrote on my blog some time ago; I didn't post it here because I do try and stay away from the H word. It does get a bit boring after a while, and tends to rather define me (even though it's only one of many cycling and urban transport issues I am interested in).
Still, I was prompted to do so by two things; one was DamianM encouraging me to do so; the other was that I did, in fact, get a ticket for this…Continue
Was thinking about supplements the other day and if they can actually help me with my riding. Ok, i'm no A grade racer, but can pedal ok for an old boy. Surely there are some supplements that can help with blood flow, breathing and losing my gut?

And so it came to pass, a week away to Paris.
Walking around an average of 10km a day in the City of Light to attempt to reduce the effects of awesome raw-milk cheeses available there... mmhmm 24 month old Comté (raw-milk cheese are illegal to produce in Australia, naturally... )
Travelling with 12, 9 and 6 year old and with shopping bags, the Metro (a station every 4 blocks? ) proved a great…Continue

Since it is a dreary, rainy sort of day which doesn't lend itself to cycling, after a week of lovely weather which did, perhaps another "Where In The World Is My Bike" is in order.Continue
The family went on a decently long ride today - almost 40km - 90% on dirt is decently long for anybody and the longest the family has ever done as a group.
Beautiful weather. Loads of goannas. No snakes. A few yellow tailed black cockatoos.
Unfortunately, we did not make it to our planned destination - the track got too sandy and boggy for the kids - we would have ended up wheeling the bikes and the kids would have lost it on the way back. We ended up 6 hours all up as it…Continue
