Time to get rid of the Google ads

Anybody notice the ads that Google is serving up at the moment.



The full ad space taken up by the Holden fleet sales is my favourite. I wonder what they paid for that, and what keywords they are targeting. The "riding like a motorist drives" post is fun too, lots of ads for defence lawyers!



What I want to do is get rid of the Google ads and replace them with something local and relevant. I have some interest already, I have to sit down and figure out the next… Continue

Coffs Harbour

Feel like a ride averaging 40km/h ?

Get yourself up to Coffs Harbour and ride the new section of highway from Sawtell to the Bellingen turnoff. On a decent road bike, and a day with no wind, you should be able to get the average speed up above 35 km/h; anyone a bit fitter than me should be able to get close to a 40 average or higher; on my 12 yr old mountain bike I got the average above 30.

"Riding" like a motorist "drives"

How do you ride?



I was chastised by a roadie on Beach Road (Melbourne) this morning because I was running red lights: "You'll give the rest of us a bad name running the reds".



Two things sprang to mind, but I didn't say anything. One is that I'm managing the risk, I've slowed down to not much more than walking pace and I'm nowhere near cars nor peds. Lasting the Distance on Long Rides

Yesterday I made my second attempt at a 100km+ ride, starting from North Ryde and cycling along the M2 Road Shoulder, then cycling the full length of the M7 Cycle Path. Total distance was 120km with a time of 4 Hours 20 Minutes.



The last time I went for a ride of 100km I had no food with me, which was a big mistake. This time I took along some muesli bars to keep me going, which sort of worked. Still, I was hurting pretty bad by the 90km mark. The ride back along the M2 was a fun… Continue

So, it is time to get serious

After many requests by my better half, I have decided to try my hand at road racing. I am thinking about joining Marconi Cycling Club, so if anyone here is a member feel free to shout out. It was a bit of a shock to find that I will be riding in the Masters category. I didn't realize I was THAT old.

I guess that is that, and I will have to fix up my bike to get her race ready.

Welcome to Heffron Park

On Saturday was my last race at Heffron Park. I've decided to leave it for a while as it is so time consuming while I'm trying to finish my studies and maintain some semblance of a social life on weekends.

I love my work

Not only can I leave my bike against the wall in the office, I just changed my rear tyre while sitting at my desk. And then I got to borrow the manager's brand new floor pump he got from the bike shop earlier today.

BTW, there are shower facilities in the office also.

Red light running is counterproductive

Despite various justifications people make, running red lights is done for selfish reasons and is bad PR for cyclists. At a time when we are trying to negotiate with government at all levels to improve conditions, safety and participation, we should behave as good ambassadors for cycling.

Ok so there may be one or two biased members of the ABC Best Of webpage team but today they have 2 more positive stories on cycling and cycling culture.

Katoomba Special

Have done this ride a few times now with LBUG, led by hill climbing legend Grant Rogers, as everyone needs a bit of downhill cruising now and again. It is not all downhill though, there are a couple of steep sections on the detours off the highway, where you lose a fair bit of height in the side valleys and have to climb back to the highway.
