Credit to Si for "Egocentric statistical nerdom" title.

A quick stocktake of my year cycling in 2011.

- dnf'd my first audax ride (rear gear cable snapped), completed 1 x 100, 5 x 200, 1 x 300.

Official: 78.3% increase in Xmas Day cycling since 2009

Yes, you read that correctly. On my 2011 Christmas-morning ride I saw a grand total of 66 other cyclists on a 77 km route from Artarmon to West Head via Roseville Bridge, Forest Way and Mona Vale Rd, returning via Pymble and Pacific Hwy. This is up from 37, on an admittedly different route in 2009, but actually rather similar to…

What about a Sun ride at different locations?

For those that responded, sounds like we have 2 from north shore 2 from inner west and 1 from east who might like to do something similar in terms of pace and distance.

Should we aim for Weekend of 22nd Jan if everyone is around to organise a Sun morning bike ride say Homebush or Centennial Park? We could aim for something like 30km in 2 hrs which is a pretty cruisy pace.

Anyone want to train or ride with me?

I have started cycling in the last 6 months and am looking for females or males who don't like to speed too much. I usually like to do around 20-30 km on my hybrid and preferably on the north shore. I am happy to ride road, bike tracks or whatever. I think I would be faster on a better bike, but if anyone wants to ride for fun on a Fri, Sat or Sun I am up for suggestions!

Nothing will stop me from cycling. Part 2.

R2R`11 was over, bugger I wanted more.Time goes on I rode self recreational rides and I`m not happy of my Apollo Ascent MTB due to ongoing mended broken patella pains from Canberra Tour`08 crash. My money in bank kept on growing from not spending on alcohol.

I remembered Madame Bike`s advice on my discussion on other site of using the wrong bike and not using cleats.I was thinking of buying a…

Sell everything!

Some of you may have noticed a few classified ads from myself in the buy sell swap forum - yep, included in those are a set of wheels I went to great lengths to polish and clean and buff... only to decide it would be cheaper to buy a new wheelset from ebay.

My ten speed restoration has suffered a few setbacks - this started when I dropped the newly painted frame and fork and chipped my lovely paintwork. This induced a fever of swearing and stamping and some steam coming from…

In need of attention...

It seems my idea of getting a new bike for Christmas isn’t going to happen. I took the fixie in for a service, and it seemed all is not well. I knew it would need some work; after all I ride it a lot in all weathers. However, the laundry list of things that need doing is quite long.

It needs a new drivetrain. This I was expecting; the chainwheel is four years old and the back…

It's damn dangerous commuting on a cyclocross....

Found the following tucked into a bottle holder after work on Thursday...

Barring baby dramas...

Knobblies on, some bunny hop practice (enough so that I started doing some dismount/run/remount practice anyway)…

I often take pictures or think of possible blog posts as I ride along, but often they turn out not to really be worth a whole article. So here are a few tidbits and odds and ends from the past few months that I thought about; sorry most of them are not very topical.

One of…
