DUTCH ID - the best electric bike?
The Dutch cycling association Fietsersbond rates this the best electric bike on the market. It's not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. Any other suggestions for its competitors?

Bike cops, bridges, taxis and bike lanes…
I’ve had a bit of a bad run of it lately. The bike cops are doing another helmet blitz on Pyrmont Bridge, and I’ve been stopped three times in the past couple of weeks. Had some lovely chats with them, but each chat costs me $66!
Whilst I have no argument with the individual cops (they are doing what their command have told them to do, and it’s obvious they think it’s a…

When N+1=1...
Christmas was a very exciting time in our household. A new bike was waiting underneath the Christmas tree! Unfortunately, it was not for me – but for my daughter, who has now reached an age where her full indoctrination can begin. Actually, in many ways I was more excited than if it had been for me.
She was…

WITWIMB 4 October 2012
Since it is a dreary, rainy sort of day which doesn't lend itself to cycling, after a week of lovely weather which did, perhaps another "Where In The World Is My Bike" is in order.
Now it shouldn't be too hard to identify the general location of this slightly left-leaning obelisk but I want accuracy,…

Cycling USA - Chicago gets it right
Americans love their cars, but Chicago is trying hard to define itself as a bike-friendly city, and it's working:

Bottleneck Infrastructure and Blunt Metaphors
For all my plaintive musings about cars, buses, trucks, taxis and motorbikes and all the cheap and nasty moves they pull around me of a morning and evening; Sydney Cyclist has truly opened my eyes to the incredible tolerance of the majority of Sydney drivers.
Why should they have to be stuck behind a bike travelling at half the speed limit? Why should they be prevented from overtaking in a lane four metres wide when it is occupied by a bike using less than half that width? Why should…

DUTCH-STYLE BIKES - will they catch on in Australia?
The ideal Dutch city bike rattles, likes being left out in the snow and looks like it's worth less than the chain anchoring it to a large building. Could they ever become popular DownUnder? Here are my thoughts...…

Where in the World is My Bike?
OK, Neil wants me to write stuff about my recent adventure in the Victorian High Country. The written word does not come as easily to me as it does to Neil and others, so I am warming up with a couple of WITWIMB guessing games.
Those who were there (Neil, Mr O', Matt_C, EMT,...?) please excuse yourselves from these.......... Here is the first photo....…

MELBOURNE'S BIKE SHARE SCHEME - my road test as a tourist
I tried out Melbourne's public bike scheme this week. Much to recommend it, though those damn helmet laws are holding it back. But everyone should try it!

Fitz's Epic | 205km of pain
Fair to say we underestimated that. Now I’m not saying we didn’t train hard enough, simply that if we had fully known how hard and how daunting that course was going to be we would have done things differently. I’m not going to go into the reason for that now, I’m simply want to review the hardest 8 hours I have ever spent on a bike. Click HERE for the Garmin…

Selling the muse
In the end, it was quite a snap decision. 'Why don't you just buy that one from me?' I found myself saying, as I discussed yet again the bike that a friend was going to buy. 'I'd love to - that would be perfect. I like that bike.' came the response, and it was done. The bike that got me back into cycling, that got me fit…
