I saw this letter attached to a bicycle chained up at Redfern station this afternoon. The bicycle was parked inside the gated areas of the station (a clear no-no and incursion on RailCorp property). Personally, I think it would be great if Rail Corp provided bike parking inside their stations. Perhaps something like this:

RailCorp has a long history of being anti-bike. This is an organisation that spends tens of millions of dollars for each car park at railway stations, yet tries to get rid of bikes.

RailCorp is responsible for building and maintaining all the bridges over railway lines. They build new bridges all the time. Ever seen the build a bridge that caters for bike crossings?

RailCorp's anti-bike attitude is in stark contrast to major cities in Europe and Asia where there is parking at railway stations for hundreds and hundreds of bikes.

SRA turn around and say not their issue go speak to the Ministry of Transport. They collect money thru the Parking Space levy - http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/aboutus/psl.html
Last year $47 mill was raised. Should be able to buy a few more lockers

The nasty notice in the photo above says "fines apply". What fines is Redfern Station talking about? I didn't know they had bike parking fines. Didn't see any signs about their fines.

... and at the risk of self promotion, basic bicycle parking only costs as much as a few peak hour train fares anyway ... providing bike parking may actually generate more revenue than it costs ... macrac.com.au

Could add this to fences of the world at http://whatshouldiputonthefence.co.uk/dining_room/25.php4. (One man's campaign to park his bike on a fence near his work in London.) Maybe should start a similar campaign against SRA.

That makes me so angry - talk about poor customer service (and planning). How about some basic bike racks? Doesn't have to be huge or fancy.

I commute to Gosford regularly, and have seen bike racks at Wyong Station, as well as a fair few bikes ... maybe an exception? And no, I'm not on my bike up there!

The new bus interchange at Chatswood has at least 3 racks. There would be room for up to 15 bikes, but I haven't seen anyone use thme yet.

What is the solution to making bike lockers more viable and protected against vandalism or mistaken identity?

There is absolutely no where else at Redfern to park them - how ridiculous. These notes seem to be on the rise - got one at World Square shopping center in the city the other month - provide me a rack and I will park there but if you don't your railing will have to do!

World Square (cnr Goulburn, Piit, George, Liverpool) - where I work sometimes - Level 6 of the car park there is approx 15 racks, you can ride down (cra ramp) no payment required and catch the elevator up
