Cycling in Sydney Australia

Adelaide Cyclists visit Sydney ( Blog from Sister site www.adelaidecyclists.com )

Kate and I ( Pete Roberts from Adelaide Cyclists )  have just celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary, so we decided to fly over to Sydney as a 'getaway'.

By the time we had landed at Sydney Airport, I was missing my bike already, so we decided to hire some bikes & tour the city.

We phoned Bonza Bike Tours, who we had seen on the internet: They do guided tours on almost a daily basis.

They told us that they did not have a tour organised but were happy to take Kate and I out for the day anyway. We were to have a 5 hour tour of the City, just Kate myself and our tour guide !

Our guide Kat, took us on a 27km ride around the back streets, foot paths, and parks that we would never have found on our own, and when I checked my garmin at the end of our ride, I noted that we averaged a dizzy 7.9km / Hour ! I had thought that riding hills, and not sweating was impossible, but I was proved wrong.

Riding Slow had never been on my radar before, but I thoroughly enjoyed the day.  Sydney has some BIG hills, in fact, the roads around Sydney are either UP or Down. There is NO Flat !

Our guide was so friendly and really knew her town, including where to buy a really good Pint !

Sydney has not been immune to our winter weather, and we received a fair down pour every day. The heavens opened again as we cycled over the Harbour Bridge.

We checked out were our Boss lives when she is in town. ( This is Kirrabilli House )

Then on through some beautiful gardens...

And finally back past the Opera house

A couple of days later, we went back to the bike tour shop and borrowed some bikes again.

This time we took ourselves on a short tour around Manly and North Heads.

Only 19km today, but we were much faster at 10km /h !

First we took the Ferry across to Manly...

Then we went looking for some more hills to climb

And finally went up to North Heads to go whale watching ( no whales today )

It was a super day out. Very relaxing, up and down hills, and for Kate the first time she has ridden a two wheeler for about 20 years !

Today I got home from work to find that she had phoned one of my friends ( Mike Branson ) and borrowed a racing bike. I think she has the BUG :)

What a fantastic trip! I've done one of the Bonza Bike tours and the guides are great. Highly recommend them to anyone having visitors in the city.

I see those Bonza Bike tours around, and I always think they're a great idea for tourists. And that when I travel to foreign cities I should rent a bike.

It was better than we expected. At first I thought it sounded a little expensive, and I even posted a question Here, but we were treated to a super day out by our guide, and well worth the money.

Great blog! I'm most impressed Bonza Bike Tour managed to organise for sunshine and blue skies for your trip!

I'm inspired. Think I'll grab the camera and head into the city one weekend. I haven't seen half the places you visited and I've worked a 10 minute walk from them for 7 years.
