Another Christmas Day FAIL by Sydney cyclists

I'm over this, Sydney Cyclists. Every year I tell you what a great morning it is for cycling on Christmas Day and every year you all ignore me. Why should I tell you again?

I'll just give you the stats: 73 cyclists in 76 km between 0615 and 0915 on an out-and-back run to scenic West Head. Hardly any car traffic and all of what there was failed to try to kill me.

Like last year, the rider score is still below the minimal one (1) on the benchmark cyclist/km scale (that I made up myself) and orders of magnitude below the 1073 or more I would expect on that route on a summer Saturday or Sunday morning.

And there was a cafe open. On the highway at Lindfield opposite the train station. So you don't even have the caffeine-withdrawal excuse.

Maybe you'll do better tomorrow.

Same in Newcastle for the Agnostics Ride.  Coffee shop open and doing a roaring trade in CBD.  Next Agnostics Ride will of course be Easter Sunday.  NY day next opportunity to ride quiet streets.

I have said it before Neil but I will remind you again that you can expect nothing more from the Liberal dominated dark side of the Harbour. Come over to the light side, The Green / Hippy / Hipster Supreme Soviet of Bike Lovingness.

I had a quick glance at SC about 0730 and was disappointed to see no Christmas Day message from Neil, perhaps he is getting past it I thought, I had better do my own count.

So off to Oxford St, Flinders, Anzac Pde, duck under Tibby Cotter, round Centennial Park (a few times), detour east, Bondi Junction and back down Oxford, Darlinghurst Rd, quick check of Kinds Cross and home.

Only 33kms (got to get ready for lunch with the relos) but counted 76 cyclists plus me = 78 77.

Count included those actually riding at the time but saw another 18 in coffee shops, being godless over here we have more of those open too (could have missed some as I only counted those in obvious uniform close to bikes)

Biggest group was 3, a few 2s but mostly loners, 5 with training wheels on.

I am not as disciplined and practiced as Neil so probably missed others, especially in the 10 minutes I was riding/talking with a chap on a Salsa with grossly winged bars like those made famous by Michael S

Come on over Neil, the cycling is fine on the Light Side

This is not a North Side v Dark Side thing, Bill.

Though it is painfully obvious that the scenery, including the hills, is SOOO much better over here and people should be making the most of it. Even coming from the Dark Side to do so. It's not like it would add much distance if you come over the SHB and then Spit Bridge.

I have a brevet card to slide under the Audax NSW presidents/National Secretary's door, might do that tomorrow morning.

Up 'ere, west of Mordor, we cycle unseen and uncounted behind locked gates

After last year's non-Brisbane excused cop out I hope we are going to get a proper Christmas Day ride report this year Neil so I can contribute the south side count in the interests of balance, unless it's too wet to get up and ride
