I love the blue bikes. They are incredibly handy, fun, good for a bit of exercise and a nice way to start the day. There are 175 stations along a 13km strip and a station at both ends of my street.

Getting to the airport: 15 minutes.
Getting to a hotel in order to meet a old work mate: 5 minutes.
Getting to the airport bus stop to get the no. 70 bus: 12 minutes. That's as quick as the bus without the wait, which can easily add 20 minutes.

And tonight, I had to drop off my work buddy. I took my bike, and we hired a blue bike for her. She hadn't ridden for 10 years, but gave it a go. We were fine for 100m. Then she missed the path a bit, came down with a clang that only 15-20kg of aluminium can make and disappeared in the garden. She laughed off her bleeding arm, and we parked it until another day.

Even blue bikes have their limits.

LOL. Long ride for her, I guess. Better luck next time -- I just hope there is a next time.

She promises to try again some time! Last ride for her was a purple bike (loooong time ago), and she says she'll practise some. Trouble was she couldn't quite get on the seat and the pedals at the same time, as she's a bit petite.. We're in Florence at the moment, thanks to France's super holiday policies. This is the weirdest unbelievable bike city I've had the fortune to be in. Have taken about 300 photos today of all the elderly, suited people. Amazing to see what's possible with your own eyes. Penny finally dropped with Euro cycling blah.

Ah, I see. It is the colour of the bike which is giving her problems.

precisely! You never forget how to ride a purple bike.
