SC Brain Trust, help!

After an uneventful ride from Marrickville to North Sydney this morning, my left knee is clicking quite badly every time I take a step. The clicking's not painful as such but it's got that "just try me" twinge every time it happens, like the next one is going to explode in a world of hurt. Help? Riding with cleats on a MTB, seat's up nice and high, what's the go?

On a side note, my right hip hates me too; apparently running for a bus last night was too much for it. Cycling's fine but god forbid I go above a brisk walk on foot. New legs pls. Can has?

I think it's time to pull out the old joint mobility workout DVD, not liking this one bit..

See a physio, that's my advice.

I second that - My sports injury centre on Parramatta Rd in Stanmore is awesome they even have a chiro that knows all about cleat and seat bike positions - friends I think with Steve Hogg (look his advise up too on the net). My boyfriend was having some serious ankle issues on long rides and they have made some adjustments to his cleats and of course physically in physio/chiro sessions that have made a world of difference.

I have been going to their 'bounce' classes and can't recommend them enough. Developed by a lady who worked with the Australian Women's Cycle team among others it is about teaching your brain to use the right muscles in all activities - it has made a world of difference to my cycling and to my back issues.

The podiatrist there is the best I have ever been too as well - feet problems can really affect the knees and I can't believe I used to cycle without orthotics - the pain in my knees has gone!

Thanks for that, guys. Naomi, can I get a name/number for the chiro and podo?

Inner West Spinal & Sports Injury Centre..

The podiatrist is called Dominic and the chiro who is up on the cycling stuff is Andrew ( I think - I see Mike who also runs the bounce classes). There is a lot of emphasis on physio stuff as well so they are not the old fashioned type for chiropractors.

Could be ITBS (Iliotibial band syndrome)
Google it and you will get some idea of the location ( inside or outside).
May need help to set up your cleats better.
Do you do any other sport?

@baa baa: Nah, just cycling and the occasional pump class.

Update: clicking went away after a few hours, hasn't reoccurred, BUT:

Today under the bridge by the fish markets, I unclipped at the lights and my left clip fell out of the pedal. I retrieved it but since I arrived at work I discovered that my cleats had come loose and were way out of alignment. I've moved both cleats way back on the shoes (as per a few other discussions on here) and got them symmetrical, and I have a new set of pedals on order. Now to see if I can fix this pedal for the ride home...
