So I did a dumb thing today.

When I got to work I locked my bike up downstairs, as usual, and got in the lift up to the office.

Tonight, when I went downstairs, I unlocked the lock and started to take it off. Something was different, wrong even.

Turns out, I had locked the rear wheel to the frame, but neglected to attach any part of it to the bike rack! Lucky I was in a nice undercover office bike rack or I'd most likely be down one road bike tonight. I feel fairly lucky it didn't get stolen even though it was undercover with security cameras pointed at it.

Fess up peeps, done anything stupid lately ?

Carried a girl home on my handlebars once.

she stuck her foot in my front wheel.

I spent my first ever night in Sydney in hospital.
That was three years ago.
Worst accident i ever had because i hurt someone other than myself.

Forgot to do up the strap on my pannier once, and the strap dangled down and got caught in the derailler/chain. Result: a bent derailler and a mangled strap.

Even stupider, I've made the same mistake a couple of times since, but have been lucky enough to not have the strap get caught in anything.

I have done worse - I have twice come back to my back at the end of the day to realise I haven't even detached my lock from it's holder! The only thing tying my bike to the rack was my helmet straps!

Lucky it is off the street but still it is a busy thoroughfare!

Tonight I somehow managed to dislodge my pannier on the way home. Luckily I'd just gone onto the footpath to bypass a parked car. I'm glad I wasn't on the road then or it would have been destroyed before I was able to get to it.

Several times I've come back to the bike cage to discover that I've locked my wheels and helmet to my frame, but not to the bike rack.

So it's not just me then.... well I can take some solace in that, I think :)

I keep hitting my head on a sign that is too low going north along the T-way cycleway at Prairiewood.

Thought of another one - I have a scar on my elbow that reminded me:)

Too much opp shopping while on my Malvern led to a full basket and still more shopping bags. So for the 5min trip home I dangled bags from my handlebars - BIG NO NO! As I was going down a hill I noticed all too late the bag and a jumper in it get caught in the front brakes.

It was like slow motion, I knew what was about to happen and I remember thinking that this was probably going to kind of hurt and then I was more concerned with getting it over with quickly in case someone saw me and how embarrassing this was going to be!

It was quite a spectacular flight through the air but luckily no one saw:) I lost skin but was fine and a plate in one of the bags even came out unbroken! I needed a new front fork for Malvern but it lived.

So my over enthusiastic bargain hunting and subsequent stupidity cost me lots of skin and $90 for a new front fork!

For the record... I locked my bike very carefully this morning :)

I forgot to tighten the quick release thing on the brakes after doing a bit of fiddling last night. Fortunately, I realised at the first downhill section. It's somewhat disconcerting when the front brake feels like a clutch for a motorbike...
