Eight weeks ago I woke up, jumped out of bed, and almost collapsed on the floor. Overnight my right knee had swollen. It could handle a little weight but not much. A trip to a Physio, the first of many, identify the problem as a slight tear of the meniscus.  Apparently this is a common cycling injury. But more worryingly, my knee mechanics were all out of alignment. Slowly we started retraining and strengthening both of my knees. As the weeks went on, the exercises got harder, and I kept telling myself 'one more week and I'll be back on the bike'. Eight weeks later, with more injuries and sickness, I am planning my first test ride tomorrow morning, provided I'm still awake after Galibier

It has been a strange, uncomfortable torture not being able to ride while watching le Tour. But hopefully, it'll all be fine tomorrow.

I too, have had weird things happen to my knee recently, including being unable to straighten or bear weight on itintermittently. Scary stuff, good to hear things are looking up for you.

I have broken patella mended and I`m still riding while waiting for knee replacement in about 3.5years time.I do have pain when in MTB everytimes I rides but when I bought hybrid bike nearly 9 weeks ago and riding with no pain but I can`t run due to spur near my patella.I had been off bike for 2.6mths before I got on it with cycle trainer to improve flexability to bend knees. My knee is at about 80% flexability at the mo.My physio told me no more trips to physio due to my self exercises on my bike.Take care of your knee and take it easy on bike till you improve.Good luck.

Success! I've got the green light to start riding again. the knee pulled up fine, and I've been told to test it on a longer ride (~1 hr) this weekend if possible. But it does look like I will have to keep doing the knee exercises for  a long time.

Thanks for the words of support.

Tear of the meniscus is a common cycling injury? I wouldn't have thought so. Btw I had about a third of my left medial meniscus removed five years ago ...

Wow. I was pretty worried about my small tear, but a third removed? Wow.
