Three and a bit years ago I put up a video here of my little boy, then two years old, flying down the hill on a balance bike.

A year later and he'd transitioned onto a bike with pedals and no training wheels and was doing pretty well.

Today he is 6. This is the first ride of his new bike, a second hand 20" wheel road bike I bought a few months ago.

I've replaced some bits on it, and the green tape...well... he's a Cav fan, what can I say :)

I suspect cycling is going to stay with him for quite some time!

Awesome! That's quite a pace, surprised you could keep up, Damian.

Sensational. Happy Birthday Miles. Great bike.

Looks like he has a taste for pushing the big gears.

Kylie and Dan, he'll be beating me in the not too distant future I know it!

It's my training motivator, being faster than him for as long as I can :)

Neat idea to go drop bars with cross top levers.

baa baa, yeah the cross top levers were one of my better better ideas :) They worked really well for his small hands and give him all the braking power he needs. The cane creek stuff is really nice.

The two other roadies we had to move for (the park was half closed off yesterday so people were riding both ways) were blown away when they saw him riding, massive grins as they passed :)

That looks Awesome. Miles is doing really well. Congratulations.

Does he have an idea about how to use the gears? I have honestly never seen such a small road bike. My experience with kids bikes has always been BMX or 24" or 26" MTB based.

Was it hard to come by?

And Happy Birthday Miles!

We've not tackled the gears yet, will do that on the next ride, I suspect it's going to take him a little while.

The bike isn't common, a friend of mine had seen one in a shop and told me about it a little over a year ago. This particular one we'd seen out riding one day, the kid on it had outgrown it and after a chat to his dad he offered to sell it to us :)

Most of the kids bikes around are 24", makes sense, not too many 6 year olds are as bike obsessed as Milo.

That looks like a neat mini racing bike.  Miles seems happy about riding it.  What a nice present.

Happy birthday Miles!
