Not only can I leave my bike against the wall in the office, I just changed my rear tyre while sitting at my desk. And then I got to borrow the manager's brand new floor pump he got from the bike shop earlier today.

BTW, there are shower facilities in the office also.

I thought you would all like to hear that :)

I'd have to say wrong on that one, but thanks for playing. Software company as a computer programmer.

I work in a software shop of about 16 programmers. Roughly 4 of the 16 ride to work.

25%, pretty good. What is it about the geeks?

We also have showers, but only one of the four rides far enough to bother wearing cycling clothes and then changing and showering.upon arrival.

Working from home makes it a challenge to add distance to your commute to work to get more riding in... But at least there are showers, bike and clothes storage/washing facilities, refrigerator privileges, lounge areas and flexible hours.

I took a straw poll while on the Great Vic Bike Ride last week and, apart from retirees, most adult riders were either in IT or were Engineers, with Finance Sector employees (includes Accountants, etc) a close third place.

Hmmm... no idea what we can deduce from that.

Oh BTW, I don't work from home. And the building manager enjoys cycling also, so he is fine with me bringing my bike into the foyer and elevators, even on rainy days. He says umbrellas and shoes bring in more rain water and mud than my bike could.

Regarding bike-friendly jobs, has anyone seen this URL? - I spotted a van parked near where I live with the URL on it - essentially it's a job placement company that proposes to put cyclists in touch with bike-friendly companies.
I would imagine that business is probably slow at the moment, but I think they're on to a winner if the trends continue.

Also, Cadel's spray in today is a reminder that attitudes of our car-driving fellow road users need to update,27574,24788969-421,00.html

I can see a new TV show, instead of "Are you smarter than a 5th greader", it could be "Are you smarter than a bogan in a ute"

Hey, another from North Sydney, or are you moving to North Sydney?
Comment by Peter H on December 12, 2008 at 2:14pm
So, I guess I won't see you riding around NS any time soon :)

Hmm... I work in a pretty geeky environment (scientists, programmers, engimaneers).. riding is pretty good here, too.

Employer is great: showers, washer, drier, bike racks.

Strangely though, the rack is a little empty today (2 bikes out of a usual 5)
