Cycling in Sydney Australia
If any of you heard a bit of minor whooping and hollering in the vicinity of the north end of the SHB on Monday morning, that was me clocking my first thousand kms. \(^_^)/
It took me bloody long enough, what with injuries, sickness, and a few months of just plain lazy, but I did it, and I have all of you to thank for helping me get started.
Some random bits and pieces:
I've gotten back into the commute a few weeks ago, and while extracurricular obligations preclude making a daily habit of it, I'm getting 2-3 days and 60-90km under my Monkey Lights (I couldn't help myself, they were on sale!) each week. On my first day back of getting back into it I spotted Blue Bianchi Girl, who helped me find my way from the SHB to Pyrmont on my second ever ride. An auspicious omen if there ever was one.
I think I've decided to bid a fond farewell to Pyrmont Bridge Road for my Inner West to North Sydney route, and to shack up with Johnston Street instead. I was taking Johnston on the way home already to avoid the nastier hills on PBR, but I tried it the other way this morning and it's awesome. Easy 45km/h pretty much the whole way through, and there's much more elbow room.
Tried the open bit of the Kent Street cycleway on Monday evening; I really, really hope they're not finished with the surfacing yet. That stretch of road is pretty damn bumpy to begin with, but it's still preferable for the time being. The sudden merge into traffic at the bottom was fun, and I'm looking forward to never having to do it again.
Xx
