Sydney Cyclist

Cycling in Sydney Australia

I hinted at this with my status message the other day - I have some big-ish news.

We (Sammy and the kids and I) have decided to leave Sydney and move to Brisbane.....yep, shocking. I wouldn't have predicted it myself a few months ago.

I've got an opportunity to transfer with my current job to Brisbane, we need more people on our team up there.
Sam and I are in need of a bit of a change of scenery, so it felt like the right thing to do, and hopefully lots of fun. We're leaving at the end of October.

What does it mean for this site ? Absolutely nothing really. The site will keep running, most of you don't see much of me anyway so hopefully nobody will know the difference.

What it does mean is that I'll be bringing Brisbane Cyclist online over the weekend, that's been on the cards for a while but I didn't have anyone to help run it, now I can do it myself. I imagine that I'll stay more involved in this site though because I love the community that has developed here and I'm not 100% Brisbane needs a site like this as much as I felt Sydney did.

I imagine I'll be travelling back to Sydney a bit, so I think I'll invest in a good bike travel bag and bring a bike with me when I can. I'll let people know if that happens and we can go for a ride :)

So, what we should do is have a party.

We're due for our second birthday party anyway, so lets make it a second birthday / going away party.

I'm aiming for Saturday the 24th of October, at the Alexandria hotel again, they looked after us well the last time. Just have to check with the venue and book it in and I'll confirm that.

Also, I'm doing a few gigs this month (on top of us packing, and me finishing up 3 projects), I'm going to be playing at the Macquarie hotel in Surry hills (corner of Wentworth and Goulburn st) this saturday night from 9ish. Also three Sundays (11th, 18th, 25th) at the Kurrajong hotel in Erskineville from 5 - 8pm. If anyone is around and would like to drop by and have a drink and say hi and listen to some music, it would be great. I'm playing with the Leanne Paris band, a bluesy / soul thing.

So that's the news. it's time for a change for me, but Sydney Cyclist will keep being awesome. Some time next week you can let your Brisbane friends know about Brisbane Cyclist, and I'll be looking for some riding buddies.

Would love to see lots of you at the party, and if you feel like some music it would be cool to see some people there too.

Wow! I only just saw this!

We will miss you guys in Sydney. I'm sure that you will love Brisbane if its reputation for great cycling is justified.

I've got something on the 24th, but I'll see if I can make it down before or after...

2000 members may not be all that far away the way things are going :)
I'm sure we can get something happening, it's less than a 2 hr flight here and the alex is quite close to the airport.

Congrats Andrew, sounds like that worked out for you.

Good luck to you and the family, Damian.

And, also to Andrew.

Sounds like good moves for both of you.

Redundancy good thing (been wanting it for a while) - sick of being part time dad, full time in Yass. And I am sure I can do something on the 24th
