Cycling in Sydney Australia

No seriously! What will the NSW Liberal/National coalition do for cycling when they get into office next year?

Thus far we have had 2 premiers of NSW who have put up what some would say are token efforts to cycling (Nathan Rees& Kristina Kenneally). I seem to remember the Liberals put up at least 1 candidate in Balmain who tried to make a zero emissions campaign and did a lot of work cycling to meetings etc - but I have forgotten his name!

Given that from what most polls predict it is unlikely the current government are going to be in office this time next year and the impression that most people get is that the Coalition are pretty much in the Jonestown camp when it comes to media audiences, it may not be a bad idea to consider the impact of a change of government on cycling in Sydney and NSW generally.

I think it would be a great idea BNSW or Cycling NSW to make some kind of approach to the all parties in the up coming NSW election test the waters as to what their approaches to infastructure etc will be given that Allan Jones et al have been vocal about the current developments.

The issue being is that even when these groups talk to them they (pollies and their parties) do not see them as a large enough group to appease. we do need them to be involved, but they also need to coordinate and inspire the general bike rider to write to their local member and opposition.
I know that BIKESydney and MASSBUG have previously run campaigns as well. So BUGS also will play an important roll. Who knows maybe BIKESydney will have another Brains Trust talk on the issue.
