Cycling in Sydney Australia

The Collectors on Friday night had a great piece on a collector of old bikes. He even has machinery from the 1800's that he uses to build replacement wheels. I wanted to record it for DamianM but was putting children to sleep and had hands full - I've tracked it down for everyone's viewing pleasure.

I think Susan might want to get him and his wife involved in the Tweed Ride next year :) I'm sure a few penny farthings would fit right in.....

Enjoy.

I actually tried to find out more information on them before the Tweed Ride to see if they could make it, alas they live in Melbourne and I couldn't get in touch with them in time.

Will certainly be seeing if I can go talk to them and see the collection next time I am in Melbourne.

The Farrens are veteran BV/BFA identities. I first met them at the 1985 National Penny Farthing Championships in Evandale, Tasmania. Each was competing on their own bike. They keep the collection in a warehouse they own near their house.

We used to own a penny farthing (2 actually) and a 3 seat bike (like the goodies) .. they where used as part of the decor at a restaurant called La Bicyclete. of 32 york St close to king.

My dad owned it and I used to work out the back. It was all old bike themed. The French restaurant was sold and turned into a Japanese one.. I have no idea where the bikes went.

Hey Yogi, I remember you asking about the restaurant here ages ago. Did you ever find out any more info ?

Even easier, watch it on the ABC site via IE, then upload it out of temp internet to the hosting site of your choice, such as Melb Cyclist.
