'Only' 184 Dutch cycling deaths in 2013. That's good news?

I was shocked to read the statistics, until I considered the other figures on Dutch cycling.

Total Road toll was 640 in 2010. Pretty impressive if you look at the big picture.

2/3 of cyclist fatalities were over 60. Why is that?

Our skulls are a little softer, Bob. But seriously...pedestrian fatalities are also much higher for older people, due I suppose to reduced agility and judgement.

some more data

most injury crashes dont invove another vehicle, usually just hitting poles and kerbs etc,  but if they do it is usually at an intersection, despite all that excellent Dutch design. Some concerns about two way bike paths and also proliferation of roundabouts.
