DAY 4 ROSEDALE TO TRARALGON via BALOOK with option of GRAND RIDGE ROAD
The rain set in at 7am. Hopes of breathtaking views from the mountaintop and a super ride across the unsealed GRR were dashed.
A few chose the quick route down the highway 20km to TRARALGON. For all but the fittest athletes, the day was one tough mother. The rain poured, the cold bit. The hill was the least of everyone's worries. Sag wagons were filled and refilled - hyperthermia struck schoolkids and adults alike. Shivering pale figures draped in space blankets and clutching hot drinks. More falls, more shredded tyres and damaged bikes than any other day ... and the rain went on pouring.
Those who braved the unsealed section grappled with mud and sheeting rain. Already ice cold, they then added wind chill speeding down the mountain.
Legend Shirley - 82 years old and riding the route today. Eight year old Michael, riding his own bike beside his mum. One brave kid.
TRARALGON SOUTH primary school baked up a storm for the last rest stop - hot drinks and warm undercover area. From there a short sprint to town. We're in a hotel drying out and warming up. Rest day tomorrow.
