Cycling in Sydney Australia
Comment by Jon on January 24, 2013 at 6:31pm At the risk of incriminating myself:
For those of us not familiar with that part of the city, and for our edification to prevent further insult: why?
Comment by yogi on January 24, 2013 at 6:39pm In Japan there is a group of guys who remove bikes that are in the way of the stream of flow of pedestrians.... I will hunt down the pic
I think they have "Bike Patrol" badges on.
Comment by Dan on January 24, 2013 at 6:56pm Context is everything.
In the actual pic, the bike isn't causing any problems - few peds, flower stall not open. So lets imagine (s)he's put it there for a moment while (s)he nips around the corner to buy a ticket from the machine, and (s)he'll be bank in a minute or two. Yes, not an ideal place perhaps, but not really that bad.
Leaving it there all day, at peak time - yes. Definitely pretty stupid. Apart from anything else he risks someone pushing it over and damaging something.

Comment by Kerry on January 27, 2013 at 9:17am I routinely walk (with my bike after dismounting at the blue line) past that lamp post on my way to work, and there is usually a bike (not always the same one) locked to that lamp post during the morning peak, and it does get in the way of people walking past.
Comment by Paul on February 4, 2013 at 9:09am yea, sure you dismount...
Comment by Kerry on February 4, 2013 at 5:05pm I do occasionally ride on past dismount signs at other locations, but I always dismount at this particular one.
When I first started working around this time last year, that particular footpath wasn't a shared user path yet. I rode on the footpath anyway to get to my workplace, and even back then I dismounted just before the station exit, walked across, and jumped back on as soon as I reach the driveway (right next to the station exit).
As of today, I have rotated to a different work location. Bye bye PA Siding. :'(
