The first magpie swoop of Spring 2010

A work colleague of mine has been swooped by a magpie on hsi morning ride. Is this is some kind of record? I mean, July's not even finished!

Working on the grounds this morning, I watched a magpie collecting some choice twigs for its nest. They should be ready to breed just after the local plovers' eggs' hatch and they calm down. About two months of ornithological trouble.

I'm the person who was swooped, (corner of Pellisier and Delange roads Putney, in Sydney) I was on my way to work -
either someone needs to teach the magpie to read a calendar (it's July 23) or my feathered friend knows something i don't about a warmer than usual spring approaching

You know, I was planning to start a thread called "The first magpie swoop of spring" and turn it into a competition.

I was planning to start that thread in August. Too late!

Gawd I hate magpie season ...

Last year Sydney, Melb and Adelaide cyclist sites, and others, contributed to a Google Map showing the locations of magpie attacks Australia wide. Because there has been a number of early reports the map for 2010 has been created.

I was swooped at the start of June (4th or 5th) at Albury Airport, carrying 3 cups of coffee!! Had to sacrifice one of the cups!! Couldn't believe it!

Someone needs to construct a bike pump that is Presta/Schrader at one end and 12-gauge at the other.
