Today was a shocker, we started out from the hotel at 7am towards Tamworth straight into a headwind, all good until the rain. Wet cloths and saddle chafe aren't a great combo.
Having said that the kms clicked by pretty quickly, there were a few stops for mechanical issues that our mechanic Paul (one of the owners of Cranks cycles) sorted out quickly, and a stop in Muswellbrook for afternoon tea courtesy of the council.
After that things got a bit tough, the rain eased off but the wind picked up to about 30knots with gusts up to 50, on top of that the wind was mostly coming at us from the front left quarter and really messing up the group, by Murrarundi it was flat up dangerous, we had one accident that was definitely prevented from becoming major by a well made helmet (sorry to use the H word) and a few near misses one including me. So we stopped, gathered the group and took up an offer of a bus trip to Muswellbrook, where we assessed the situation and decided that the safest option was to get a bus trip to Tamworth. So in the end our 270km day turned into a rather frustration 130km day.
In the end we are all safe a ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges. Now off to bed before I collapse :)
