Anyone out doing training rides in the early morning at the moment ?
What are you wearing to keep warm ?
I just bought a nice spray wind jacket which is nice, but it does still get a bit sweaty if I wear it when it's not wet. I think I need to get myself a base layer.
I leave home at 4:15am (approx). It is usually very cold and I have the following:
- bike pants (for comfort)
- track suit pants
- long woolen socks
- t-shirt
- "budget" polyester padded rain jacket with hood. Good for absorbing sweat.
- woolen scarf (across my mouth and nose)
- cycling gloves
- woolen gloves over the cycling gloves.
Friday (1 week ago last friday) it was about 7 degrees and I was not overly cold wearing this.
I have also purchased an expensive cycling rain jacket (adidas response jacket) but I find that all it manages to do is cause me to sweat to the point that it is running down my arms onto my hands (that is a bad feeling). This jacket now makes a very good backpack cover.
dude i'm up at 0500 its a little brisk. i get too hot in a water proof, i'm in cycle niks, shorts, netti top, polyester jumper type thing maybe a vest if its cold. in the rain spare jocks and socks for when i get to work, i'm just as wet with a water proof as with out but with a water proof i'm wet and hot so i give it a miss.
How cold is it and how long are you riding for?
Polyester Base Layer and Gillet with breathable mesh should be fine for dry crisp morning's. I normally wear some arm warmers as well. After 15-20mins you should be toasty. If it's really cold then 3/4 length bib's with roubaix fleece jersey. Overshoes are a good idea as well.
