I ride my Trek 520 touring bike most of the time, but I also have a proper electric bike that I use occasionally - not one of those scooters with pedals for decoration. As well as these, we had a Trek T100 tandem that we rode socially on and toured in Oz and NZ, but sadly we had to sell it. Unfortunately ill health now means that my wife is unable to ride anymore. It held many good memories for both of us. :-(. I've just (June 2008) lashed out and bought an old stock Trek Pilot 5.2.

Might have to think about a tandem-towing harness in future. Up until we stopped riding it after kids, we had only found one hill to defeat us on the tandem -- that was while Alexander's mother was three months pregnant with him and we were riding towards Jenolan Caves out of the Cox's River valley. Even a 24 x 30 low gear did not enable us to pedal it. A hard push that one.

We've been to Tasmania three times, twice towing children, and it is our fave part of Oz. My God, the hills are hard, though. (We have found some real beauties on some pretty darned obscure roads.) Forty km days are generally enough. But I like the fact that the two largest cities, at opposite ends of the state, are a mere day's (Audax) ride apart!

Have been perusing your website. Amazing! Great work. There is enough fascinating stuff to read for days -- engrossed in Tasmania tours now.

He darrell - i went back to the store where i bought it - luckily a serious bike store where they take these things seriously. I mean a Trek 5.2 is a pretty serious bike and ought to be stable to 70kms at least. good idea to get it checked it over in my view. like i said in an eariler post i nearly killed myself first time out and am still getting over the experience for downhilling. heck i can only get to 70 these days ;-0

Looks like an interesting trip, though maybe c-c-cold!. Just be careful of the cat-head thorns -- stay on bitumen wherever possible and never ride across grass out there. We took the kids to Dubbo zoo and despite all care still had four punctures from the buggers in two days. Strangely, when we did a tandem trip in 1993, also at this time of year, from Lithgow to Brewarrina via Dubbo (and zoo) and back via Warrumbungles and Hunter Valley, we had only one puncture and that was from glass. Good luck!

Darell,

Did you do your trip out west? We drove (ugh!) the GWH last week and noted an adequate shoulder most of the way. Plenty of cars and trucks too, unfortunately.

Yes both can happen.
If you click the Forum tab at the top of the page, you'll see the forum are which is for more open discussions. Replies here can be "threaded" which means that you can reply to an individual post and fork the discussion off into a new "thread".

Each member also has their own blog area where they can post thier own journal type entries. Comments to these are less threaded, and more linear.

On the home page, the latest blog posts feature at the top of the page and the latest forum discussions are featured down lower.

To confuse things a little futher, each group has its own forum section.

Which you use is entirely up to you when you want to post something new :)

Does that make more sense now ?

Hey Darrell
I just realised I didn't welcome you when you joined, sorry about that. I usually try to comment for everyone.

In answer to your question, forum posts allow a more threaded discussion, blog posts have a more linear comment structure.
